When a sweet friend asked me to make some Thomas the Train cookies for her little boy turning two, I was so excited. My little boy used to LOVE Thomas, so these brought back to many memories!
She knew she wanted some Thomas shaped cookies and also some number 2's with tracks. I started with those designs first and came up with a few more to complete the set.
Here are my drawings that I began with!
The finished set

The cookie process:
I didn't have a cookie cutter for Thomas, so I drew out my design on a piece of cardstock. After I cut my design out, I laminated the drawing so I could use it over and over and the oil from the cookies wouldn't hurt the drawing.
(Tip: If you roll your dough out first and chill in the fridge for out 30 minutes, it is easier to cut out your image)
I knew I wanted Thomas to have puffy cheeks so I practiced a few time before I began the set.
(I used some tutorials from YouTube to get the dimension of his cheeks. Haniela's and Baking with the Best were the two video's that I learned from)
I knew I wanted to take the dimension a step further so I baked small circle cookies that I iced with a black royal icing edge. Then I made my Thomas faces on those small round cookies.
When I was ready to start the cookie, I drew my image on the on the cookie with an edible marker to use as my guide. I attached the small cookie face first with a small amount of royal icing. When the icing under the faces dried a little, I then started the outer part of the train.
Finished result
I just love those little cheeks
Although I worried about these little guys for about a week. I am so happy at how they turned out!!
